A presentation about the Colonial forts and Fort McCoy will be given on Dec. 1 at Williamsburg Community Center. Dr. Kim McBride will present at 3 p.m.

The event is free and the public is invited. The program will display many of the artifacts found at Fort McCoy this past summer and fall by the archeological teams.

Many of the finds have been cleaned already, but a few bags of artifacts still need to be brushed and washed. Interested history buffs will be offered the chance to participate. Tables will be set up as washing stations and those interested may help or watch the treasures revealed during the cleaning.

McBride will bring photos and stories to share about her research into the fort system that was in place throughout these mountains to protect settlers from Indian attacks before the revolutionary war.

This will be a great conclusion to a year of research at Fort McCoy.

The community center is located in Williamsburg next to the fire department on Route 9. From the Alta exit on I-64 West, take Route 12 North to the intersection with Route 60 East. About 100 feet down 60 East, turn left onto Williamsburg Road and follow it eight miles.

The program will run from 3 until 5 p.m. and the presentation will be the first activity. Everyone is welcome.
