Celebrate and learn about our earth on Saturday, May 22 from 1-4 p.m. at Bellepoint Park in Hinton.

The event will be overflowing with information and activities for both children and adults. Freebies to take home will include items to beautify, refresh and help the earth such as reusable water jugs and shopping bags, seeds, plants and seedlings, children’s books about the earth, snacks and more.

A sampling of children’s activities are: animal pelts by the National Park Service, leaf identification and making stencil books by the forestry department, bracelet making, a nature walk, a reading of “The Lorax,” a game to identify endangered animals and bug tattoos. The Summers County Public Library will also host a children’s event starting at 10 a.m. in Bellepoint Park with stories, planting flowers and a nature walk.

For adults, there will be a chance to look under the hood of a hybrid car, compostable dishes, recycling, ways to reduce energy costs, information from the Sierra Club, as well as invasive species, fair trade foods, pipelines and protecting the Greenbrier River.

To see events at Pipestem Folklife Center on that day, check out earthdaywv.com.

State Senator and Pastor Ron Miller will lead an outdoor ecumenical service beginning at 1:30 p.m., and former U.S. Congressman Nick Joe Rahall will offer advice on effective ways to communicate with your lawmakers at 2:30.
