The Greenbrier County Farmland Protection Board is currently accepting applications for conservation easements. Deadline for the applications are Jan. 15.
The goal of the federal, state and local farmland protection program is to offset development pressure and preserve farmland and green space. It is a voluntary program that offers landowners the opportunity to sell or donate a permanent conservation easement on qualifying farmland. The USDA’s Natural Resource and Conservation Service has partnered with the GCFPB to purchase development rights on selected farms in order to keep productive farmland in agricultural use.
More information about the program, as well as applications, may be obtained by calling 304-497-4300 and leaving a message or emailing greenbrierland@frontier.com.
