Ronceverte – Mary Elizabeth Shafer, 90, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg.
Born Mar. 7, 1926, at Ronceverte, she was a daughter of the late Frank Taylor and Effie Jenette Hodges Wright.
Mary was a member of Zion’s Light Baptist Church and Women’s Circle of the church, a member of the Red Hat Society and a retired Therapy Aide at Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Harding Shafer whom she married on Dec. 27, 1947. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lena Spinks and brothers, Frank Wright, Jr. and Donald Wright.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Wyant (David) of Fairlea and Helen Trump (Bob) of Baltimore, MD; two granddaughters, Sheryl Quick (Jim) of Caldwell and Betty Lightner (Ben) of Lutherville, MD; and four great-grandchildren, Mason Bostic, Bailey Lightner, Becca Lightner and Brennan Lightner.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 16, at Zions Light Baptist Church in Ronceverte, where Pastor Gary Baker officiated. Interment was in McLean Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Ronceverte.
The family received friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
