We are the Coalfield Conference AAA Team Champions! We finished behind Independence as the overall champions. We had 13 (out of 14) wrestlers place at the tournament. The team was led by our two champions Levi Hobbs and Andre Escobedo. Andre Escobedo also won the Most Outstanding Wrestler award. Please take a moment and let that sink in. That is BIG TIME! It was a great tournament and we saw a lot of tremendous competition. Our other place-winners were Jacob Thomas (second), Ethan Asbury (second), Zach Mullins (third), Aaron Davis (third), Jacob Hefner (fourth), Cameron Zobrist (fifth), Cayden Hoover (fifth), Waymon Browning (fifth), Leslie Campbell (fifth), Zach Enox (fifth) and Logan Evans (sixth). We also had a Green Team (JV) wrestler Liam Leaseburge who placed fifth. Great Job Liam! We broke school records for the most place-winners and points scored. It was a tough tournament and a great preparation for the regionals. We will continue to stress to our wrestlers that you need courage to succeed as we get ready for the regionals.
A lot of people have a fear of failure, however, some people also have a fear of success. We must train the mind and the body for success!
TRIVIA: We had two conference champions at the Coalfield Conference this year. Can you name the last time we had two conference champions in the same year?

We will be at the regional championships at Woodrow Wilson on Saturday, Feb. 18. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m. Please come out and cheer us on as we try to win our first regional championship in school history. Andre Escobedo became the first Greenbrier East wrestler to win aMost Outstanding award at the Coalfield Conference. Congratulations to Levi Hobbs who broke the record for most takedowns in one season … and he is not done. WOW!
