The Annual Literacy and Math Night at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School (EGMS) was held on Thursday, Oct. 27. This year’s theme was centered on the Percy Jackson book series by Rick Riordan.
Students, parents, and staff who attended the event rotated through various stations including archery, measuring, decorating a temple, participating in a trivia game and making slime. Parents had the opportunity to speak with guidance counselors and learn how to utilize Engrade. All students earned drachmas, or Greek coins, throughout the night to be entered into drawings for various prizes.
The annual literacy and math night is sponsored by the EGMS National Network of Partnership of Schools (NNPS) Action Team for Partnerships, comprised of parents, business partners, teachers, school administrators, and student representatives. The Action Team extends special thanks to Carnegie Hall and David Buhrman for presenting in the Cosmodome.
Established at John Hopkins University in 1996, NNPS invites schools, districts, states, and organizations to join together and use research-based approaches to organize and sustain excellent programs of family and community involvement that will increase student success in school. Local business interested in being a part of the NNPS initiative at EGMS should contact the school at 304-647-6498.
