Greenbrier River Watershed Association (GRWA) won Watershed of the Year award during the Annual Celebration sponsored by the West Virginia Watershed Network and held at Canaan Valley Resort on Saturday, Oct. 22.
GRWA also won an award for “Easing into Conservation.” This year’s award was focused on the watershed’s efforts in obtaining a 250-acre conservation easement along the Greenbrier River across from the Spice Run Wilderness. A conservation easement protects land from development.
Partners in this project include Alan and Gwen Balough, GRWA, the West Virginia Outdoor Heritage Conservation Fund, Greenbrier Land Conservation Trust, West Virginia Land Trust, Downstream Strategies, The New River Conservancy and West Virginia College of Law. For more information on how to obtain a conservation easement, call the GRWA at 304-647-4792.
