The film “Lives Worth Living” will be shown on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 12 noon – 2 p.m. in honor of the Americans With Disabilities Act, at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. This is a joint venture between the Greenbrier Valley Disability Awareness Committee, the WV Division of Rehabilitation Services, Concord University and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
This is an hour long documentary that tells the story of a man adjusting to life with a spinal cord injury and his role in the early days of the Disability Rights Movement. The film is an honest depiction of what life was like prior to the Americans with Disabilities Act and how individuals with disabilities fought so fervently to get equal rights.
Shawn Allen of the Social Work Department at Concord University will moderate this event and the department will be offering two free Continuing Education Hours for Social Workers. After the video of “Lives Worth Living,” panelists Vanessa VanGilder; Olmstead Coordinator for the State of West Virginia, Dr. Robert Foster, Associate Dean for Osteopathic Medical Education at WVSOM, and Cindy Tucker; Trainer/Consultant with Open Doors Inc., will share information and answer questions.
