Main Street Ronceverte has announced its campaign to replace the city of Ronceverte’s Christmas decorations. The city lost all their decorations during the June 23 flood which damaged the city maintenance shop where the decorations were stored.
“The decorations were under four feet of water and mud,” said Tammy Rhodes, Main Street Ronceverte program manager. “Once we discovered that the decorations could not be salvaged, we began our plans to ensure that we have new decorations for the December Christmas parade.”
The decorations will have a snow flake and toy theme and will be placed from the Colonel Thomas Edger “Jock” Clifford bridge into the downtown along Main Street and Edgar Avenue. Also included in the decorations is a new community Christmas Tree. The city just completed the final downtown sidewalk streetscape upgrade in August, adding a total of 43 lampposts which will require decorations.
The total costs of the Christmas Decorations is $45,000. Main Street Ronceverte is working in phases to raise the funds for this year’s celebration of $25,000. “We will need to raise these funds by the end of November which will ensure delivery in time for the parade and the Christmas season,” said Rhodes.
“It’s important that we begin the campaign for the decoration replacement as soon as possible”, said Kathy King, president of the Ronceverte Development Corporation. “This year’s Christmas parade represents the 90th parade held by the Ronceverte Fire Department, and we really want to light up the town for this year’s parade.”
