Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), in partnership with The Met: Live in HD, presents Wagner’s iconic “Tristan und Isolde” on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 12 noon. The simulcast will run approximately 4 hours and 42 minutes with two intermissions. Dr. James Caplinger, from the University of Charleston, will give a complimentary lecture beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Wagner’s tale of the dangers of love stars Nina Stemme and Stuart Skelton in the title roles. Ekaterina Gubanova and René Pape feature alongside Stemme and Skelton as Isolde’s companion Brangäne and King Marke. Conductor Sir Simon Rattle returns to the Met after his 2010 debut with “Pelléas et Mélisande.”
Stemme has sung the role of Isolde many times, and her Met history also includes the title roles in “Elektra,” “Turandot” and “Ariadne auf Naxos,” as well as Senta in “Der Fliegende Holländer.” Skelton made his Met debut in 2011 in “Wozzeck” and portrayed Siegmund in “Die Walküre.”
