Local commuters, and potential beachgoers, have a new option for flying out of the Greenbrier Valley.
Via Air jet service from Greenbrier Valley Airport to Charlotte, NC, is slated to begin today, Saturday, Oct. 1. The nonstop flight will also continue on to St. Augustine, FL ,on Thursdays and Saturdays.
According to Airport Director Stephen Snyder, Via Air is hoping to add a second Florida destination by Christmas. For now, he said, passengers can enjoy spectacular introductory rates. Tickets sold and flown through October at FlyViaAir.com are being sold for under $10 each way, and tickets sold in October and used by Nov. 30, 2018, can be booked for $19 each way.
Regular fares are scheduled to be priced at $39, $49 and $59 with free carry-on bags and one free checked bag, regardless of size. Second checked bag is $30.
All flights will include full-sized snacks and drinks.
Snyder said that the new airport restaurant, operated by Tailwind Concessions, is slated to be open by mid-January. The as-yet unnamed restaurant is undergoing a $350,000 renovation and will offer a coffee shop and pastries, smoothies and local foods. They will also offer an in-flight menu catered directly to the aircraft.
