The town of Rainelle is holding its annual tire collection event this year on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Rainelle U.S. Army Reserve Center, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tire collection program is for everyone in the area, and the public is invited to send the message to their friends, neighbors and family members. According to Mayor Andrea Pendleton, 4,000 tires were collected from the Rainelle area in a single day last year. For those in Rainelle who need assistance, help is available by calling 304-438-7191.
Sponsored by REAP (Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan), each year, REAP’s Pollution Prevention and Open Dump Program (PPOD) conducts tire collection events across the state. At least one collection event is held in each county. During these events, individuals with proof of West Virginia residency can dispose of ten tires in a safe way. PPOD is also responsible for the removal of tires piles located across the state. During 2009, more than 400,000 tires were collected and/or removed from West Virginia’s landscape.
Please note the following restrictions:
Only tires from state residents will be accepted. Please have your WV ID ready when you sign in. A ten tire limit per person will be strictly enforced. Tires must be off the rim. Only car or light truck tires can be accepted (16 inches or less).
