The Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education will open its traveling exhibit, Robert C. Byrd: Senator, Statesman, West Virginian, with a reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Greenbrier Valley Convention and Visitors Center on Washington Street in downtown Lewisburg. Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of Dinsmore & Shohl.
The exhibit tells the story of Byrd’s origins in the coal fields, his service to the state and the nation, and his lasting legacy as the West Virginian of the 20th Century. To reflect on their decades of public service with Byrd, former U.S. Reps. Nick J. Rahall II and Alan B. Mollohan will offer remarks.
From Sept. 2 to 30, the exhibit can be viewed from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, at the Greenbrier Valley Convention and Visitors Center.
From Oct. 3 to Nov. 8, the exhibit will be hosted at Concord University.
The centennial of Byrd’s birth is Nov. 20, 2017, and the traveling exhibit will be at the Culture Center in Charleston, where a grand celebration is being planned.
