New River Community and Technical College celebrated the achievement of the first students to complete the accelerated Electric Distribution Engineering Technology (line service) program on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Advanced Technology Center, Ghent.
“We’re really proud of these guys,” said Interim Dean of Workforce Education Joseph Hazelwood. “All of the students in the accelerated class were displaced miners looking for retraining opportunities, and they chose New River CTC because of our program and partnerships. All of our EDET graduates already have job contacts.”
The accelerated program was designed specifically for displaced miners and began the week of May 23. The program is regularly 32 weeks.
