Spartan Band sets first public appearance

The first public appearance of the 2016-17 Spartan Marching Band of Greenbrier East High School will be an end of band camp concert on Friday, July 29, at 5 p.m. at the Greenbrier Youth Camp at Anthony. The concert is free and open to the public.
“X Marks the Spot” will be the theme of the field show for the Spartan bandsmen who will lead the spectators on a “treasure hunt” through the music and staging under the direction of Field Conductor John Ambler.
Other band leaders for 2016-17 include Platoon Leaders James Floyd, Kate Lyn Glover, and J.J. Mattox with the Guard Captains Abby Hurley and Tiana Henson.
With this concert, the Spartan Marching Band will be concluding its 39th annual band camp during which the students participated in five-a-day practice sessions along with campfire programs, a talent show, swimming and other sports as well as camp responsibility activities.
After band camp concludes, the students join the choral music program at Greenbrier East in directing the parking at the State Fair of West Virginia then return to a full schedule of classes and practices in preparation for the opening performance during the pre-game and halftime of the Greenbrier East/James Monroe varsity football game in Spartan Stadium on the Greenbrier East High School campus in Fairlea on August 26. Game time is 7 p.m.
The Greenbrier East High School Music Boosters will be operating the home and away side concession stands for all varsity, junior varsity football; all home boys and girls soccer team matches, Eastern Greenbrier Middle School athletic events in Spartan Stadium and GEHS and EGMS spring track meets.
