Local wood turner Michael Cope presents his new collection of well over 50 wood turned bowls, vases and hollow forms at Harmony Ridge Gallery. Stop by Friday evening, July 1, for the kick-off celebration or see the show at the gallery throughout the weekend.
Cope’s approach to turning a piece of wood is to showcase the grain and the wood’s unique features in the best possible way. His favorite approach is to find a gnarly piece of wood and work with it to let its inner beauty come out. Cope works with a wide range of woods, including cherry burl, plain cherry, sugar maple, cottonwood, ash, plum, box elder, curly red maple, black walnut and spalted maple, each with their own characteristics.
Bringing art into people’s daily lives, Cope creates pieces that are functional and can be used daily, while others are museum quality works of art.
The show will be on display thru Sunday, July 3. For more information call Aaron or Monica Maxwell at 304-645-4333.
