Eighteen students from New River Community and Technical College’s Greenbrier Valley Campus received their Cosmetology Pins during a special ceremony held May 12.
Friends and families gathered in the Hollowell Auditorium of Greenbrier Hall where Roger Griffith, regional director of operations serving Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas and Summers counties, presented the welcome, and Stacy King of the Allison and Company hair salon in Lewisburg, delivered an inspiring message to the cosmetology certificate and degree-earning students.
The formal Pinning of the Graduates was conducted by Lisa Brown Carter, program coordinator for the cosmetology program, who was joined by Shelia Decker, Erin Stennett, and Nedra Allen, instructional specialists with the program.
Earning the Certificate in Applied Science in Cosmetology were: Taylor Bush, Clifton Forge, VA; Heather Cantley, Hinton; Christina Crookshanks, White Sulphur Springs; Savanna Gill, Lewisburg; Diana Hefner, Frankford; Kendall Hobbs, Lewisburg; Georgia Holmes, Renick; Colby John, Renick; Lauren Nichols, Union; Kayla B. Pysz, Shady Spring; Tammy Rhodes, Gap Mills; Shana T. Smith, Lewisburg; Cayleigh Spence, Leivasy and Vanessa Varner, Durbin.
Receiving the Certificate in Applied Science in Esthetics were: Kayla Holliday, Lewisburg; Sarah Mathewson, Green Sulphur Springs and Merly B. Mojado, Lewisburg. Emily A. Brackenridge, Clintonville, was awarded the Nail Technician Advance Skills Set Certificate.
A reception honoring the students and their families followed the ceremonies in the Student Activities Center.
One of the fastest growing programs of study at New River CTC, the cosmetology department offers certificates and degrees in the various fields related to the Cosmetology profession.
