Two students from the Lewisburg Classical Conversations homeschool community recently capped months of study by correctly reciting over 400 facts from a multitude of subjects as part of the national Classical Conversations Memory Master program. The information included a chronological timeline of 161 events and people, 24 history sentences to add depth to the timeline; 120 locations and geographic features in the Africa, Europe and the Old World; science, including the classification of living things and each continent’s highest mountains; five Latin noun endings and their singular and plural declensions; English grammar facts, including 53 prepositions, 23 helping verbs, and 12 linking verbs; math, including common squares and cubes, basic geometry formulas and unit conversions; and reciting all 44 US presidents.
The students, Lucy Skelding, 7, and Jacob Gwinn, 12, were awarded the Memory Master award on May 6 at Lewisburg Church of Christ, new host of the Lewisburg campus of Classical Conversations.
Memory Master is a program that is available to all Classical Conversations participants nationwide. Classical Conversations is an educational community providing academic programs, events and services to home school communities, parents and educators utilizing the Classical education model. Classical education is based on a three-part approach to learning known as the trivium. The component of Classical education for elementary-age students is known as the grammar stage, which emphasizes acquisition of facts. The Lewisburg campus also hosts a middle and high school program for homeschoolers.
