The West Virginia University Mountaineer for 2016-17 at WVU athletic events and events throughout the state will be the guest of honor at a reception Friday, June 10, at the Greenbrier Valley Airport in Maxwelton. The reception will be 4-6 p.m. in the main terminal reception area and will be hosted by the Maxwelton Ruritan Club in cooperation with the Greenbrier Valley Airport and the West Virginia University Department of Athletics to honor Troy Clemons of Maxwelton, a senior at WVU.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children and their cameras for photo opportunities and admission to the reception is free.
A graduate of Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea, Clemons has been a life-long true Mountaineer fan and is a Mountaineer and Promise scholar at WVU. He has served as a student manager for the WVU baseball team and student assistant for the Mountaineer Athletic Club.
In addition he is a facilities intern for the WV Black Bears and frequent volunteer at WVU Children’s Hospitals, Ronald McDonald House Charities and the United Way.
“We invite all from the Maxwelton community and the Greenbrier Valley to join us in honoring our neighbor and ‘favorite son’ at this free reception,” said Lee Godbey, president of the Maxwelton Ruritan Club, who added that light refreshments will be served.
The Maxwelton Ruritan Club is the only civic organization serving the community which stretches north from I-64 to Savanah Lane and east to the Greenbrier River and west including Fairview Road. The Greenbrier Valley Airport is located off US 219 just south of Maxwelton and parking is free
