The Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center welcomes the enchanting works of Mark Blumenstein to the May Art in the Valley exhibit. Formed from junk metal, the humorousness of his art arises from the recognizable, such as a shovel for a head and garden shears as a beak. His kinetic, balanced pieces, meant to move by a slight touch or by the wind, are a must-see.
Blumenstein started creating his re-purposed pieces of art in 1974, when he found inspiration while piling junk metal for recycling. He imagined a flying bird within the mangled metal and welded the parts together and he has been creating sculptures ever since. His work is known world-wide and appears in galleries throughout the United States.
The Visitors Center began the Art in the Valley project as a way to provide local artists with an exhibition space. Each month the Visitors Center showcases a different artist or collections of artists. Art in the Valley is free and open to the public.
