Friday, Apr. 29, was Children’s Memorial Flag Day in memory of children lost to abuse. Friday morning, officials at the Greenbrier County Courthouse raised the Children’s Memorial Flag to commemorate the thousands of children and teenagers who suffer violent deaths in America each year. The center figure in the flag represents a chalk outline of a deceased child. Below the flag, dozens of pinwheels have been placed on the lawn, each one representing a child served by child welfare agencies in Greenbrier County. (Sarah Mansheim photo and text)
