old stone 4Join the Greenbrier Historical Society on Saturday, Apr. 23, for Stories Told in Stone, the first chapter in a multifaceted program centered on cemeteries, Lewisburg history, and the people buried in the Old Stone Cemetery.
The Historical Society has spearheaded a restoration and preservation plan for the Old Stone Cemetery that will begin anew with the coming spring.
If you would like to learn more about the preservation work at the Old Stone Cemetery and the research that has been done over the last three years, more about historical landscaping, and how properly clean and maintain gravestones, join them for this event.
The Greenbrier Historical Society, in conjunction with the Trustees of the Old Stone Cemetery, are sponsoring several informational presentations and workshops this spring and summer. The first, a presentation on landscaping historical cemeteries, will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Old Stone Church followed by a hands-on workshop on the do’s and don’ts of cemetery cleaning and landscaping, titled Landscaping Amongst the Stones.
A cleaning workshop will be held on Saturday, May 14,, and an open house in the Old Stone Cemetery will occur in June. Children are welcomed for the open house, as there will be many fun and educational activities for kids of all ages.
Visit the North House Museum for a brochure and registration forms or find them on Facebook: Friends of the Old Stone Cemetery.
