On Mar. 17-18, the West Virginia Advisory Council for the Education of Exceptional Children (WVCEEC) held their monthly board meeting in Greenbrier County at the West Virginia University Building at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds. Participating and presenting to the Council were Special Education Directors, teachers, and students from Greenbrier, Summers, and Monroe County Schools.
The 12-member council serves as a non-paid consultant to the State Board of Education on all matters pertaining to the education of exceptional children in the public school systems and institutions of West Virginia.
Some of the topics discussed were drop-out prevention, meeting the needs of deaf and hard of hearing children through satellite instructional programs, transition services for children graduating from public schools, and state annual progress reports. Pat Homberg, executive director of the West Virginia Department of Education Office of Special Education discussed current state events and issues with the council.
Students from Monroe County presented information of their State Robotics Championship and Greenbrier County students presented on a 3-D prosthetic hand they helped develop as well as a drafting project, which focuses on the complete renovation of the stadium at Greenbrier East High School. Pro Start Culinary Arts students from Greenbrier West High School prepared and served refreshments for the guests.
