The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) will focus on the “mind” portion of Mind, Body, Spirit, during the school’s annual Celebrate Osteopathic Medicine (COM) Week.
The week’s events, which will take place Mar. 7-11, will include lectures about how to protect emotional health, techniques to be used for mind/body medicine, as well as healing the mind.
Community members are invited to a Tuesday evening series entitled “The Mind and Healing: Alignment of patients, therapists and physicians.” The event will take place from 6:30-8 p.m., Mar. 8, at the Greenbrier Valley Theater in Lewisburg. The free event will be presented by Chris Stevenson, D.O., son of the founder of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America(CTCA). He will discuss the osteopathic model used at the CTCA and be joined by a patient and a mind-body therapist, who will offer their perspectives on the comprehensive approach to cancer treatment.
Two Greenbrier County residents will discuss their experiences with treatment at Cancer Treatment Centers of America following the presentation. A vegan dinner will be served for attendees beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Lewisburg Mayor John Manchester will sign a proclamation officially recognizing COM and NOM weeks in the community at 12 p.m., Feb. 29, in the Lewisburg City Hall council chamber.
National Osteopathic Medicine (NOM) Week, recognized by the American Osteopathic Association, will be Apr. 17-23. NOM Week brings the osteopathic medical profession together to focus on increasing awareness of osteopathic medicine and D.O.s in communities across the country.
