This past week the Greenbrier East Wrestlers re-established their goals as they prepared for the Regional Championships in Beckley. We had the opportunity to look back on the most successful regular season in Greenbrier East High School history. Now is the time to take those efforts and successes even farther. We are so proud of EVERY team member and the impact that they have on our program. Now, it is SHOWTIME! We want our wrestlers to perform at their best and enjoy every moment of it. This is an exciting time of the year.

Our theme for this week was “Be incapable of Discouragement.” Because you will get knocked down, you will get beat, you will falter, but DON”T get discouraged. If you get knocked down six times, get up seven times. Our wrestlers will continue to make us proud! GO SPARTANS!

The 10 teams in our Regional Championships are Greenbrier East, Ripley, George Washington, Oak Hill, Shady Spring, Capital, Riverside South Charleston, Woodrow Wilson and Princeton. Four of those teams have been ranked in the Top 10 this season. It’s going to be Fun!

A special shout out goes to our four seniors this season. Josh Amos, Jasiel Kinder, Sheldon Simmons and Brent Miller have all been a positive influence to our team and the community. We are so proud of them!

TRIVIA: In 1996, Coach Gordon qualified 5 wrestlers to the State Wrestling Championships. Can you name those 5 wrestlers?

Upcoming events and highlights

The Greenbrier East Wrestling team will be traveling to Huntington to the ‘Big Sandy’ Arena for the State Wrestling Championships on Thursday, Feb. 25. Wrestling starts on Thursday and the Finals will be Saturday evening. Check for exact times and updates at WVMAT.com.

E.G.M.S. UPDATE: We had 7 Eastern Greenbrier Wrestlers training for the Jr. State Championships in our wrestling room last week. It is not a coincidence that the wrestlers that are successful at the Jr. States are also successful at the High School State Championships later.

MILUK HUMOR: I’m not saying that my brother, Timmy, is a bad cook, but at his house they pray AFTER the meal. (Ha!)

TRIVIA ANSWER: The 5 Greenbrier East Wrestlers that qualified for the State Wrestling Championships in 1996 were Brian Hall, Eric Golden, Chris Robards, Josh Teubert and K.C. Hoke.
