Lewisburg-Eloiria “Sylvia” Shafer, 91, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at her home on Muddy Creek Mountain.
She was born July 24, 1924, on Muddy Creek Mountain, a daughter of the late William Wallace and Nancy McCutcheon Quick. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Sylvia was a member of Zion’s Light Baptist Church and was a member of AARP. She was a retired secretary with Greenbrier Valley Hospital and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Ovid Shafer; sisters, Blanche O’Dell, Mary Sampson, Amy Rutherford and Lula Donovan; and brothers, Walter Quick and Charles Quick.
Mrs. Shafer is survived by: daughter, Martha Dodson and husband Dennis of Forest, VA; son, Montie Shafer and wife Emilie of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Amy Lynn Shafer Anderson (Tim), Andrea Lee Shafer Morgan (Derrick), Erica Ann Dodson; great-grandchildren, Conley Morgan and Kymberlyn Morgan; step-great-grandchildren, Ava Anderson and Hayden Anderson; a devoted niece, Nancy Quick of Lewisburg; and caregivers, Melinda Moody, Janie Rutherford and Louise Moody.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 14, at Zion’s Light Baptist Church of Ronceverte, where Pastor Gary Baker officiated. Burial was in the McLean Cemetery at Ronceverte.
Friends called before the service at the church on Sunday.
