The Greenbrier County Convention & Visitors Bureau (GCCVB) has announced that paintings from local artist Edith McKinley will be displayed in the Art in the Valley exhibit for February. McKinley is well-known as the owner of Edith’s Health and Specialty Store in downtown Lewisburg.
McKinley’s grandmother was an artist and her mother had an advanced degree in textile design, so she grew up with color chips and fabric swatches. She stated, “I was always going to be an artist, but life intervened with marriage, children and then Edith’s Store.” In 2000, McKinley decided to get out her grandmother’s art supplies and paint; she’s never stopped. She said, “I love the way light and color interact. My paintings have layers of color so that the viewer’s eye can penetrate and combine them.”
The opening of McKinley’s show The Intersection of Light and Color is Feb. 5 during First Fridays after Five in downtown Lewisburg. Strum Sum Band will provide musical entertainment.
The Visitors Center began the Art in the Valley project as a way to provide local artists with an exhibition space. Each month the Visitors Center showcases a different artist or collection of artists. Art in the Valley is free and open to the public.
