January is national Stalking Awareness Month, and the Family Refuge Center is raising awareness about the crime by visiting New River Community and Technical College and WVSOM to visit students.

Victims of stalking should document anything that’s happening, said Laura Hosey, community education coordinator for the FRC. “Write things down. Keep text messages and voicemails. Try to keep track of how many times and when you were contacted,” she said. Also, Hosey said, enlist the help of others.

Stalking victims can reach the FRC anytime at 304-645-6443. Law enforcement should also be contacted.

The Eastern Highlands Chapter 1072 of the Vietnam Veterans of America continues its plan to erect a monument in the Spa City.

Chapter Secretary and Treasurer Bobby White presented possible designs for the monument at the group’s November meeting. White said the granite has been ordered for the monument, which will boast six granite walls and hold 36 names. The entire design includes landscaping and lighting in addition to the monument.

Next, the group must get approval from White Sulphur Springs for the site of the monument.
