At Tuesday’s Lewisburg City Council meeting, the first reading of Ordinance 255 was approved to amend and modify the official code of the city in regards to administration/city parks usage fees. Upon the second reading and passage of the ordinance at the February council meeting, the city’s fee schedule for use of the city parks will be as follows:
Dorie Miller Park:
• Shelter reservations – $20/day
• Concession stand use – $10/day or $100 per scheduled League activity
• Ballfield reservation – $10/day or $100 per scheduled League activity
Hollowell Park:
• Shelter reservation – $30/day
• Concession stand use – $10/day or $100 scheduled League activity
• Ballfield reservation – $10/day or $100 per scheduled League activity
A second ordinance authorizes the city of Lewisburg to submit an application and a written plan consistent with the requirements of WV code to the Municipal Home Rule Board to allow the city to participate in phase III of the Municipal Home Rule Pilot Project. This was the first reading of the ordinance. The second and final reading will be during the February council meeting.
The second reading and public hearing for Ordinance 254, to declare public policy for nondiscrimination in employment and public accommodations to all persons without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, blindness, handicap, familial status, or sexual orientation and gender identity, will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the Roland P. Sharp Alumni Center on the campus of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
In other business:
• Dr. David Beatty stepped down from his position on the Parks Commission after having served for several years. Todd Wagner was recommended by Parks Commission Chair Josh Baldwin, who also serves on the city council, to fill Beatty’s unexpired term.
• City Recorder Shannon Beatty read two proclamations at the Tuesday night meeting. The first one proclaims the week of Jan. 18-22 to be Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Week.
The second proclamation honors Jim Talbert as Volunteer of the Year 2015. Talbert has worked as a volunteer archivist for over 20 years with the Greenbrier Historical Society in Lewisburg.
• Public Works Director Roger Pence reported to council that the final stage of the radio read project is in hand with the complete installation of all meters within city limits.
