This past weekend the Greenbrier East Wrestling team competed in the West Virginia “National Guard” Duals Tournament. There were 36 teams representing five different states. Mason (Ohio) won the tournament with Johnson Central (Kentucky) placing 2nd. We wrestled 10 different teams and finished with a 7-3 record. Overall, we were very happy. We had six different wrestlers beat opponents who were ranked in the top 10 in the State. We also had four wrestlers beat opponents who had previously beaten them. We are improving! It was great competition and an opportunity to expose our strengths and weaknesses.
As a team we are currently ranked #9 in the State with five individual wrestlers ranked in the Top 10; Jasiel Kinder (2nd), Logan Evans (8th), Jacob Hefner (8th), Levi Hobbs (9th) and Ethan Asbury (10th). This past weekend Jacob Thomas beat a #3 ranked wrestler and Aaron Davis beat a #4 ranked wrestler. So look for their names to surface soon. Upcoming events and highlights
The Greenbrier East Wrestling team is travelling to the Christiansburg, VA. ‘Big Blue’ Tournament this Friday and Saturday. Wrestling starts at 4 p.m. on Friday. This is a nationally ranked tournament with many top teams. It will be TOUGH!

E.G.M.S. UPDATE: The Eastern Greenbrier Middle School Wrestlers wrestled in the Greenbrier West “Timberwolves” Duals Tournament and finished in 3rd place out of 10 teams. On a side note: Jacob Piner beat a very good undefeated wrestler!

TRIVIA ANSWER: NEVER. This was the first time that Greenbrier East has ever beaten Greenbrier West in wrestling. Greenbrier West is and always will be a perennial power in wrestling. It’s not a coincidence that they won a State Championship under Jeremy Tincher.
