Dr. James Caplinger, from the University of Charleston, will give a complimentary lecture beginning at 12:15 p.m. Tickets are $18 for general admission, $12 for seniors and $10 for children/students. Set in the Far East, Bizet’s masterpiece, on stage at the Met for the first time in 100 years, tells the story of two men who long for the same woman. This updated version of Bizet’s opera stars Diana Damrau as the beautiful priestess Leïla, Matthew Polenzani and Mariusz Kwiecien as her suitors Nadir and Zurga and Nicolas Testé as the priest Nourabad. Gianandrea Noseda, who made his MET debut in 2002, will be conducting the orchestra.
“When word gets around, the sleeper hit of the Metropolitan Opera season could be the new production of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers),” —The New York Times
