Lady Spartans defeat Bluefield, take Championship

The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans dug their way out of a hole in the Jerry Bradley Memorial Holiday Tournament, held at the Greenbrier East gym, and won a game over the Bluefield Beavers, 58-55. Lexi Tincher scored 29 points, and committed no turnovers, to lead the Lady Spartans to their victory. Kiara Smith chipped in 5 assists, and Tincher, a guard, led the way with eight rebounds.
Falling behind by a score of 9-0, the Lady Spartans battled their way back to take the lead at halftime, 25-23. By the end of the third quarter, the lead was 41-37 for the Lady Spartans. The seesaw battle featured a great deal of speed, as both teams moved the ball well up and down the floor.
After the game, Head Coach Jim Justice said, “It started out 9-0 Bluefield, and the girls had to battle back. A lot of lineup changes, a lot of role players came off the bench and played really well. Lauren Lindsay did a great job in that game, rebounding, and taking the pass. They were in a diamond half-court press, and she would come to the top of the key, take the pass, and dump it off to our shooters. She did a good job.”
