Pre-planning by area farmers pays off

This is the second year of the indoor winter farmers market at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds. Thanks to the use of high tunnels and elite farming skills, we are able to shop for fresh produce on Saturday mornings even through winter.
In addition to fresh beef, chicken, pork and lamb, our farmers are churning out salad greens, fruits and vegetables, according to winter market organizer Frank Tuckwiller.
Farmers from both downtown Lewisburg farmers markets are converging at the fairgrounds on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Along with fresh produce and meats, there are also bakers and bread makers. There are sensory herbal specialists with soaps, potions and smell-goods. There are artisans and jewelry makers.
Tuckwiller states, “This winter market also has arguably the best breakfast and lunch in town on Saturday mornings and afternoon. Fresh eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast and biscuits and more are made to order at great prices.”
There are almost 20 vendors every Saturday setting up and offering Greenbrier County an easy-to-peruse cornucopia all winter long.
After a one-week hiatus, the Lewisburg Winter Farmers Market will be wishing a healthy new year on its return Jan. 2. One lucky person will be showered with blessings from the farmers in the way of a huge giveaway. The winner will be announced at market on Jan. 2.
