White Sulphur Springs-Leon Palmer Baker, 66, went home to be with the Lord and his son Justin on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at his home following a short illness.
Born July 19, 1949, in Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Leonard and Macie Baker.
Leon was retired from Greenbrier County Board of Education as a bus driver. He was a long time member of Wild Meadow Baptist Church and served on the Board of Deacons and the church pianist.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son of 18 years, Justin Baker; his parental grandparents, Fred and Beulah Pence Baker; and his maternal grandparents, John G. and Virgie Vines Isom.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 46 years, Jo Ann Baker; son, Michael Leon Baker of White Sulphur Springs; family pet, Buddy; brothers, Earl Baker and wife Linda of White Sulphur Springs and Robert Baker and wife Pat of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; sister, Glemma Woodrum and husband David of Ronceverte; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral services was held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Wild Meadow Baptist Church where Pastor Roger McDaniel and Rev. Lowell O’Dell officiated. Interment was in Mapledale Cemetery, Rt. 92, White Sulphur Springs.
Visitation was Tuesday at the church before the service.
Pallbearers were: Wayne Woodrum, Matthew Baker, Billy Joe Clonche, Donnie Graham, Delmas Graham, Chase Graham, Cody O’Dell and Cody Lester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wild Meadow Baptist Church.
