Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), the State Professional Theatre of West Virginia, presents the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol.” This Christmas musical runs Dec. 10-12 and 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinee performances on Dec. 13 and 20 at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $27 for general admission, $24 for seniors and $20 for children/students. For tickets or more information, contact GVT’s Box Office at 304-645-3838 or visit www.gvtheatre.org.
Ring in the holidays with GVT’s musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ timeless tale of redemption. The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future lead heartless Ebenezer Scrooge on a journey through his childhood innocence to the cold and lonely death that awaits him. After seeing what he has made of his life, Scrooge realizes that compassion and generosity are more powerful than all the money in the world.
For the past 15 years “A Christmas Carol” has been a tradition at GVT. During that time the late Jim Norris often portrayed Fezziwig, young Scrooge’s kind and generous employer. This year the role of Fezziwig will be filled by Tom White.
“Playing Fezziwig is bittersweet. Fezziwig is a great role and Jim was a great guy and a perfect Fezziwig,” White said.
White has been in three productions of “A Christmas Carol,” but he has always portrayed Bob Cratchit. This year he’s had the challenge of creating his own version of Fezziwig. White has large shoes to fill, but working alongside his son Jed has made his task easier.
“I love performing with Jed! It is something very special for us to do together. I get to participate in the process and can see how his performance comes together over the weeks of rehearsal. I love seeing how much fun he has,” White said.
In keeping with Jim Norris’s legacy, White brings humor and creative spirit to the character of Fezziwig. The hard work and dedication needed for this production has reminded him of just how powerful this tale is.
“We all lead hectic lives and it’s nice to be reminded that kindness and benevolence and giving to those less fortunate can enrich our lives in ways that the almighty dollar cannot,” White said.
