awards-headerThe Greenbrier resort will close for a total of 24 days next year, spread throughout January, February and March, for renovations and upkeep.

“We are going to conduct some pretty big projects that we can’t really have guests around for,” Erik Hastings, a resort spokesman, said on Nov. 19. “All the pieces haven’t really been put into place yet.”

The resort will be closed on about half the Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the first three months of 2016.

The Greenbrier is tentatively scheduled to be closed: Jan. 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 25, 26 and 27; Feb. 8, 9, 10, 22, 23, 24 and 29, and March 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 21, 22 and 23.

Work to be done on the historic resort includes electrical upgrades, painting, furniture and upholstery repairs, carpet replacement and wallpaper work.

Hastings said the closings are a standard to the industry, and that the dates were chosen to coincide with the resort’s slow season.

Also Thursday, the report announced its “Tribute rates” which start at a deeply discounted $79 and are available for five days in December and 11 days in January. The promotion was renamed this year. It had been called “Tribute to the Virginias,” but this year was renamed “Tribute to Dorothy Draper,” in honor of the designer who led the resort’s redesign in the 1940s.
