White Sulphur Springs City Council met for a brief session Monday night, entertaining a light agenda. The monthly meeting had been rescheduled from the previous week due to lack of a quorum, and even at the Monday meeting, Councilmember Mark Gillespie and Recorder Peggy Bland were absent from the dais.
Those present approved a request from White Sulphur Springs Main Street Association’s Pat Harper for $600 to fund the annual Christmas parade.
The parade, dubbed “It’s a Vintage Christmas in the Spa City,” is set for Saturday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. with lineup at 4 p.m. Harper said that April’s Pizzeria owners Lisa and David Long will serve as the parade grand marshals.
Council also agreed to pay one-third of the cost of a skid steer machine to be used by the city for various projects, including snow removal. The remaining two-thirds of the cost will come from the water and sanitary department budgets. Council said that it is estimated that the cost to the general fund will be roughly $7,500 to $8,000.
Council members remind the public that City Hall will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27. Residents who have garbage pickup on Thursdays will have their trash removed on Friday.
The next regular meeting of White Sulphur Springs City Council is set for Monday, Dec. 7.
