OBIT Mr. BoswellDamascus, MD-Robert Jehu Boswell passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015. He resided in Damascus, Maryland for 49 years.

He is survived by: his devoted wife of 61 years, Marietta; his two loving daughters, Nancy Long (David) of Rockville, MD and Jane Boswell of Miami Beach, FL; his daughter-in-law, Deidre Lewis Boswell of Frederick, MD; sister, Myna Boswell Wolfe of Charleston, WV; sister-in-law, Dottie Graley Boswell of Morgantown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Robert Alan Boswell, and by 12 of his siblings.

Robert was born in Alvon, Greenbrier County, on Apr. 10, 1927, to Eula Grace Wade and Joseph Merricus Boswell.

He graduated from White Sulphur Springs Senior High School. Robert served in the U.S. military, and was stationed in Germany for the U.S. Army, and subsequently served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Robert graduated from West Virginia University in 1952. He played football and wrestled while at the university and in his senior year was the Southern Conference Heavyweight Champion. He was a member of Mountain and of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He completed his Masters degree at West Virginia University while teaching at Greenbrier Military School.

In 1954, he married the love of his life, Marietta Hervatin, also a physical education teacher. Their life together included teaching in West Virginia, Florida and Maryland. Locally he taught and coached several sports at Poolesville, Rockville and Damascus High Schools. For 20 years he and his wife owned and operated Great Meadows Day Camp. He was a local farmer who enjoyed raising beef cattle.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and respected him.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Inc., Laytonsville District Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. or to the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs. Interment will follow in the Alvon Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Alvon.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
