The Greenbrier Military School Alumni Association and descendants of the Moore family have joined to establish The Greenbrier Leadership Scholarship. Greenbrier Military School alumnus Perry Woodside, alumnus William Isbister, and Deborah White, director of Secondary Education for Greenbrier County Schools visited Greenbrier East High School and Greenbrier West High School on Oct. 15 to announce the newly established scholarship opportunity to attentive high school seniors.
The Greenbrier Leadership Scholarship will annually recognize outstanding leadership achievements by on graduating senior at Greenbrier East and one at Greenbrier West. Each award is a four year scholarship in the total amount of $12,000, consisting of four annual payments of $3000.
“This is a significant scholarship award for our students and we are tremendously grateful to the GMS Alumni Association and the Moore family for making this opportunity possible,” stated Deborah White. “These gentlemen are building a lasting legacy that will impact the lives of students in our county for years to come,” she continued.
The scholarship’s focus comes from the Greenbrier Military School’s historic commitment to instilling fundamental leadership concepts into the school’s Corps of Cadets. The criteria used to select each year’s recipients will be based on leadership and the school’s principles of Truth, Duty and Honor. The scholarship will be included in the Greenbrier Valley Scholarship Packet available through the guidance office at each school.
