Alderson-Ruth Genevieve Crowe Huffman, 93, passed away on Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at her home in Alderson, following a sudden illness.
Born Aug. 28, 1922, in Senecaville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Forest Mae Meighen Crowe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Willis Huffman; four sisters, Lillian Mae Crowe Richey, Mary Marie Crowe Curtis, Betty Jane Crowe Chester and Bonnie Deane Crowe Potts; four brothers, Argel Avery Crowe, Melvin Andrew Crowe, Joseph Walter Crowe and an infant brother; niece, Mary Jo Potts; and nephew, John Medley.
Mrs. Huffman worked various jobs throughout her life. She worked as a clerk at Alderson’s Clothing Store in Alderson for many years. She was employed at the former Bendix Corporation in Lewisburg and worked at the Army Depo in Columbus, Ohio, making bomb signs for airplanes. When her husband passed away in 1978, she took over running the daily operations of their beef cattle farm and farmed full time. Mrs. Huffman was a 1940 graduate of Senecaville High School, Senecaville, OH. She was a member of the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson and was a former member of the Senecaville Methodist Church in Senecaville, OH. She was a former member of the Blue Sulphur Springs Home Extension Club and loved to crochet and make afghans. But above all, Mrs. Huffman loved to farm. The farm was her life and farming meant everything to her.
Survivors include a sister, Wanda June Crowe Grywalsky of Reynoldsburg, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, where the Rev. Dr. Bill Bryan officiated. Burial was in the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson. Friends called at the church Sunday, October 4, before the service.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
