Registrations are now being accepted for a Blackjack training course, which will begin on Oct. 19 at New River Community and Technical College’s Greenbrier Valley Campus, Lee Street Complex, Building D, in Lewisburg.
The class will meet from 6 to 10 p.m., five days a week for six weeks, amounting to 120 hours of instruction.
To be hired by a gaming facility in West Virginia, dealers must be licensed by the state. The first step in obtaining a license is to successfully complete an approved training program. Blackjack, one of the most common games found in casinos worldwide, is the first course for anyone interested in working in a casino.
Prospective students should be personable, outgoing, and professional in both demeanor and appearance. Table games also require manual dexterity and an excellent proficiency in math. Other useful attributes include showmanship and good customer service skills.
The cost of the class is $675, plus a$100 licensing fee. Employment is not guaranteed upon completion of the course.
Interested students should pre-register by Oct. 9 for a required math assessment and interview.
