Area author Belinda Anderson has been selected for the 2015 Purposeful Reading Program, a list of reading recommendations for West Virginia CEOS clubs.
According to the WVU Extension Service, one of the aims of the West Virginia Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) is to promote the Purposeful Reading Program, a program that will provide a greater appreciation of good literature, open up new fields of interest, and widen horizons. Members may participate by reading books from the recommended list.
“Belinda Anderson’s stories are superbly written,” said Cat Pleska, Anderson’s publisher at Mountain State Press, based at the University of Charleston. “One signature of her writing style is the touch of humor she includes, making her stories delightful reads.”
“Her resonant stories ring in the mind,” said Lee Smith, the author of such novels as Oral History and The Last Girls.
Anderson’s first three books are short story collections: The Well Ain’t Dry Yet, The Bingo Cheaters and Buckle Up, Buttercup. Her most recent book, Jackson vs. Witchy Wanda: Making Kid Soup, is a middle-grade novel.
Her literary work was selected for inclusion on the first official literary map of West Virginia, published by Fairmont State University.
Belinda teaches creative writing workshops and makes author presentations. She is scheduled to teach workshops for Trillium and the Monroe Arts Alliance this fall, as well as signing books at the West Virginia Book Festival in Charleston in October.
