A memorial for Julian Bond will be held on the historic bridge in Alderson on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 2:15 p.m. where Episcopal priest, the Rev. Betsy Walker, will conduct a service in accordance with the family’s wishes (see below). All who mourn Bond’s passing and wish to honor him in this way are invited to attend and bring flower petals.
As a family friend, Joan C. Browning shares the family’s final request:
“We invite you to gather at a body of water near your home and spread petals on the water and join us in bidding farewell to Horace Julian Bond. This gesture will mean a great deal to us as a family and also provide some comfort in knowing that you share our loss.”
Burial of the dead at sea – BCP 1928
Unto Almightv God we commend the soul of our brother departed, and we commit his body to the deep; in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection into eternal life, through our Lord Jesus Christ; at whose coming in glorious majesty to judge the world, the sea shall give up her dead; and the corruptible bodies of those who sleep in him shall be changed, and made like unto his glorious body; according to the mighty working whereby he is able to subdue all things unto himself.
