Lewisburg-Annabel Phillips Burns, formerly of Charleston, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015.
She was born in Bidwell, Gallia County, Ohio, on Jan. 31, 1922, to Fred and Nelle McCarley Phillips, who preceded her in death, as did her husband of 64 years, Leslie L. Burns; sister, Willanelle Burke; brother, Laurence E. Phillips; and great-grandson, Austin Abbitt.
She is survived by: two daughters, Emily Legg (Gene) of Lewisburg and Karen Blakey (Paul) of Marietta, GA; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She graduated Valedictorian from Dunbar High School and also graduated from the Charleston School of Commerce. In later years she attended the University of Charleston. She was a member of Baptist Temple in Charleston and led the bible study for her Women’s Circle for more than 20 years. She held memberships in Sunrise Art Museum, Huntington Museum of Art, Berry Hills Country Club and was an associate member of Women’s Kanawha Literary Club. She enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing, tennis, golf and gardening.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Baptist Temple in Charleston at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. A graveside service will be held at the Calvary Methodist Church Cemetery on Rt. 60, Richlands, Lewisburg, at 4 p.m. on Aug. 29.
