WVU Extension’s Women in Agriculture Conference slated

Women farmers are a growing force in West Virginia. Their work is crucial in preserving small farms, improving the local food system, and enhancing rural economic and social development.
To support these efforts, the West Virginia University Extension Service is hosting the second annual Women in Agriculture Conference, Oct. 23 and 24, at Canaan Valley Resort in Davis, West Virginia.
The conference is divided into four education tracks: livestock, horticulture, farm finances, and farm niches. With a variety of session offerings, participants can tailor their conference experience to their specific agribusiness needs. The conference also provides an important opportunity for women working in agriculture to build networks.
The conference format will be similar to last year’s, with a pre-conference farm tour and networking dinner giving participants the opportunity to gain valuable insight from local experts with real world experience. There will also be daytime hands-on educational activities for youth ages five to 18.
Registration is currently open. There are a number of affordably-priced options for conference attendance. Early registration rates are in effect until Oct. 1, and discounted lodging is available at Canaan Valley Resort until Sept. 14.
For more information, visit http://anr.ext.wvu.edu/ag-women/wia-conference or contact the Tucker County office of the WVU Extension Service at 304/ 478-2949 ext:209.
