Carnegie Hall’s performance series, CarnegieCast, brings encore performances in high definition of opera, ballet and concert events from around the globe the 4th Monday of each month September through November. Showing Monday, Sept. 23, is Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, staged at the Vaudeville Theatre in West End, London. The live broadcast took place on Feb. 7, 2013 and included red carpet arrivals and behind the scenes footage exclusively for participating theaters.
Jo Clifford’s adaptation directed by Graham McLaren is an “outstanding,” “haunting,” and “utterly brilliant” production that brings some of the most memorable characters ever created to life. The beautiful, chilling Estella, the terrifying convict Magwitch, the manipulative Jaggers, the tragic and mysterious Miss Havisham and Pip looking back on his young self – a boy with “great expectations.” With expanded design and sound, newly commissioned music, and a cast of 13, the audience was promised an epic theatre experience.
