Dr. L. Marshall Washington, president of New River Community and Technical College, has announced the promotion of two faculty members.
Tim Hofmann has been promoted from instructor to assistant professor of biology at the Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg. Hofmann joined New River in 2006 and is currently the faculty representative on the Board of Governors. Before moving to West Virginia, he taught at Norwest-Shoals Community College in Muscle Shoals, AL.
A graduate of the University of North Alabama, Hofmann majored in biology and minored in geology. He earned a master’s degree in biology at Jacksonville State University in Alabama.
Karen Carter-Harvey has been promoted from instructor to assistant professor of psychology at the Beckley Campus. She joined the New River faculty in 2009 as a visiting instructor. She also has served as an adjunct faculty at Bluefield State College’s Beckley Campus. In 2011, she received the Teaching Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) at the University of Texas at Austin.
Carter-Harvey received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from West Virginia University, graduating cum laude. She earned a master’s degree in psychology from Marshall University.
“We are fortunate to have Tim and Karen on New River’s faculty. Their commitment to student success has earned the respect of both students and professional colleagues. I congratulate them on these well-deserved promotions,” Washington said.
New River Community and Technical College serves Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, Summers and Webster Counties from five locations: Mercer County Campus (Princeton), Nicholas County Campus (Summersville), Beckley Campus, Greenbrier Valley Campus (Lewisburg) and the Advanced Technology Center (Ghent). Administrative offices are located in Beckley.
