The David Yarid Memorial Scholarship, administered by the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation, was awarded to Malachi McCutcheon, a 2015 graduate of Greenbrier East High School. Malachi plans to attend Marshall University and major in accounting.
The David E. Yarid Scholarship Fund was established in 1989 to honor the memory of David Yarid, a young businessman in the prime of his life. The scholarship also honors the Yarid family who has been prominent in the local business community for many years.
The scholarship is for $500 each year for four years to a graduating senior at Greenbrier East High School who demonstrates outstanding achievement in the field of business and who plans to pursue a college education in this field. The recipient is chosen by the faculty of the business department of Greenbrier East High School.
McCutcheon had the following to say after receiving this award. “College will be a difficult transition but thanks to a wonderful community and the Yarid family’s generous donation, I will transition with ease. It was an honor to receive this award and it will be put to great use while attending Marshall University.”
