Hartford, WI-Helen P. Rodgers, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Wellington Place of Hartford where she had been a resident for two years.
She was born Oct. 12, 1921, in Waynesburg, PA, daughter of the late Don Carlos and Mabel (Crumrine) Pollock.
She received her A.B. from West Virginia University and a Master’s degree in mathematics from Iowa State University. She was appointed a lecturer and taught at Sweet Briar College and West Virginia Universiy. She was a mathematician at a time when few women were.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray W. Rodgers on June 25, 1998; as well as her sisters, Dorothy MacEvitt (I3ilI) and Rebecca Pollock, and brother Don Pollock (Martha).
She was amember of the United Methodist Church in Whitefish Bay as well as the Elizabeth Chapel in West Virginia, and she was an honorary lifetime member of 73 years in the WI and WV P.E.O. Chapters. She was part of the Ruritans and Homemakers clubs in WV.
She enjoyed spending time reading, doing crossword puzzles, bird-watching, gardening and being with her loving family.
She is survived by: her four sons, David (Cindy Rubin) Rodgers of Boston, Charles (Elly) Rodgers of Manila, Philippines, Richard (Heather Reid) Rodgers of Boston and Robert (Alice) Rodgers of Hartford; three daughters, Betsy (Mark) Wolfson of Wauwatosa, Becky (Bob) Cleland of Hartford and Mary (Henry) Kosarzycki of Greendale; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and close friends.
A family service will be held at the Elizabeth Chapel in Ronceverte, on Saturday, June 20 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Audubon Society, the Greenbrier Historical Society or Greenbrier County Public Library, or a charity of your choice.
