The Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) grants $500 in marketing funds to the Alderson Quilters and Crafters for their upcoming Quilting Retreat. The quilters are hosting their 4th Annual Quilting Retreat at the Alderson Community Center, Apr. 30 to May 2. Fran Kordek, a National Quilters Association instructor and judge is the featured speaker. She will present on the Sunburst and Winding Ways quilt patterns, as well as instruct a Quilt in Sections class. Other classes include T-shirt Quilts, Fabric Bowls, Fun with Trapunto and Paper-Pieced Notecards.
The retreat includes morning classes, beginning at 9 a.m. and afternoon classes beginning at 1:30 p.m. Lunch and snacks are provided for a separate fee. For more information about the retreat contact aldersonquiltersandcrafters@gmail.com.
The CVB sets aside a portion of its budget to assist local organizations with their tourism marketing efforts. The applicant’s marketing plan must attract visitors outside of a 50-mile radius with strategies that encourage an overnight stay.
Funds totaling over $15,000 were awarded to 11 Greenbrier County organizations for tourism marketing through the Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Mini-Grant Program. Other recipients from the January application period include: Greenbrier Historical Society, Greenbrier Valley Bicycle Club, City of Lewisburg, Lewisburg Chocolate Festival, Lewisburg Downtown Business Association, Main Street Ronceverte, Greenbrier Repertory Theatre Co., Carnegie Hall, Lewisburg Literary Group and WV Dandelion Festival.
